Day 8
Today we headed to Rome.
We had organised a water taxi to pick us up at 9am and take us to the train station. We grabbed a bite to eat and waited for the train to depart. It left at 10:30 and although we had standard tickets, it was comfortable. The train went fast! The fastest speed we saw was a touch over 250kph. After going through Florence, we arrived in Rome around 2pm.
We waited for a taxi and after running into some interesting characters, we were in the taxi and on our way to the accommodation. Donna and I had only been to Rome once before (just for a day), and we were excited to be back. The buildings here are so old!
After a bit of a wait to get into our apartment we finally got up to our rooms. It is fair to say that the photos and reviews of the place are quite flattering. It is very pokey and there is a smell that takes getting used to. However it is our home for a few days and most of it will be spent put and about exploring.
After dumping our luggage we set out for the Pantheon. It is a short walk from here and once there, Larry and Amanda went off to have tea with their daughter while Donna, Jason, Elaine and I found a small cafe and had a bite to eat while watching the crowd around the Pantheon.
We then walked back to the hotel, had couple of vinos before heading out to tea. We found a restaurant 20 meters from the apartment and had a good feed, before returning back to the room for an early night.
