Day 12 Civitavecchia
Today was the day we were to get on the cruise. It has been an action packed 11 days and we are all looking forward to some R&R. However first we decided to take a walk to the Altare della Patria, also known as the wedding cake. It serves as a museum and has sweeping views of Rome at the top. Donna and Steve took the elavator to the top and took some great photos. We all meandered back to the hotel taking in one last look at the Colosseum and Roman Forum.
We had a light lunch and jumped into our private transfer to the port of Civitavecchia. The port is about 90 minutes drive and most of us took the opportunity to grab 40 winks.
We got to the port, proceeded to the embarkation area, and after about 15 minutes we were on the ship. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and went to check out our rooms. We have 3 cabins side by side, so after the room attendant opened up the barriers between balconies, we have a nice large area to share.
At 4:15pm we had a safety drill to attend before heading to the top of the ship for the sail away. Donna found 6 nice lounge chairs and before we knew it we were being waited on for drinks. We sailed away sharing a few drinks, laughs, and listening to a live accoustic guitar player. One of the highlights of the trip so far.
Tomorrow is a day at sea and a day of rest.
