Today was Oktoberfest day! We woke up early and headed down to breakfast. Had a quick bite to eat, then caught a local tram into downtown Munich. From here we took a 20 minute walk until we started to see the massive grounds of Oktoberfest. Not just a beer drinkers paradise, there were plenty of stalls, rollercoasters, rides, and a huge ferris wheel.
We got there a little before opening but it gave us the chance to walk around and have a look at everything before the crowds came. And once the clock struck 10am the crowd certainly piled in. We headed to our first beer hall and pulled up a pew. We downed a stein and enjoyed a traditional pretzel and sausage. We then visited a couple of more beer halls and it quickly became apparent that seating was at a premium.
We found another beer hall and ate some lunch which included the obigitary pork knnuckle. Donna and I shared one but couldn't finish it.
We then left and jumped on the ferris wheel for a grand view of the Oktoberfest grounds.
We then left and headed into Munich to look at some old buildings and architecture. This time was a bit of a blur but I'm told it was good. The rain them came and we walked for miles trying to find the tram back to the hotel. We finally found it and got back around 6pm.
We all ate some tea, had a couple of beers and went to bed.
It ws a great but tiring day.
