Hello once again!! Just thought I would do abit of a catch up and upload some photos as it's been ages.
Ok so from the last entry. After the Elephant riding and cookery lesson (Yum!!) We headed up to Chiang Rai where we headed to PDA (the charity running our trek), and had lunch at the charity's resturant, Cabbages and Condoms!!
That night we stayed at small village with a family. We had dinner on mats and some children/teenagers came and played some local style music for us, even let us have ago, haha!!
The next day was the start of our trek!! Though firt off we had to sit in the back of a farmers truck for a hour before we reached the drop off point, I had a very numb bum by the end. That day we trekked for about 5-6hours through steep hilly rain forest type areas. It was very humid and hot. We were struggling with it. Abit of relief came when it started raining just before lunch, definitely cooled us down, though it meant we couldnt eat next to the beautiful waterfall.
Once we made it to our first tribal village (the Lisu) we were shown to our Accomodation, It was like a luxury lodge, such beautiful views too!! I decided to have a Thai Massage that night to relieve my aches, though just incase you didnt know, thai massages arent exactly relating like regular ones. felt like i was being pulled apart at somepoints!!
The next day was more trekking, though this was no where near as hard as the first day, thank god!! Then we stayed the night with the Akha tribe. There were lots of children at this village, and of course they all loved us (especially we were giving them sweets and balloons, etc lol. This tribe were much friendlier than the first. that evening we watched and took part in a local dance/performance!! The trek and experiences and views were amazing however, by the 3rd day, we were all ready to get back to civilisation, so after another 4 or so hours walking back down we got a nice hotel and hot showers, bliss!!! That night we went out and found an amazing bar, The Teepee Bar!! So dingy and grungey, had guitars laying everywhere and wigs, (which everyone was enouraged to wear!!), played rock music and the guy that owned it came out dressed as different rock stars throughout the night!!!
The next day we took it easy, hangovers!!! argh. We went up to the Laos and Burma (Myanmar) Boarders, known as the golden triangle. Did abit of shopping, went to an opium museum.
After this is was pretty much just travelling back down to Bangkok. Lots of buses and another overnight train. Once in Bangkok we had a big last night out, had dinner and drank cocktails. Ended up in a bar called Gullivers on Khao San Road that was full of middle aged white men who had young pretty Thai girls with them!! Was alittle disturbing, as most of them were hookers!! haha.
So that was the end of my tour :( I stayed for another 2nights in Bangkok with a girl who was on my tour (Jami) We went to Chinatown, which was pretty horrible. It was so crowded and polluted, and there were some very strange things for sale, shark fin, lots of dead and dried animals that counldnt really be recognised!!
Then we got abit lost and ended up taking 3river boats to the zoo, instead of one!, whoops.
Then I was time to leave Jami and Bangkok!! So now I am in Singapore. It is a very strange place. It seems to be divided into ethnical areas. I'm staying in Little India, so there is a high population of Indians. The China Town here, is Very nice though, went there yesterday. Feels and looks alot like an american city in most places, Its so westernised, clean and organised, doesnt feel like asia at all, which is abit sad. The City is just full of shopping malls though! great if you can afford to go shopping, which i cant :(
Last night I met a few other backpackers and we all went for dinner and drinks. Then went down to Singapore lake where they have a massive wheel like the one in london and sat at the shore, drinking, like teenagers. Was a very pretty view of the city though!!
Leaving Singapore tomorrow and flying into sydney next. Will probably be there for a couple of weeks, not too sure though.
Anyway, Hope all is well with everyone!! thanks for reading this!! hehe
Love Sam Xxx
