Arriving in Sipicate we were surprised to find the resort all but empty. We were able to rent a beach bungalow right on the water for only 150Q, just over 20AUD. We were pleased to be at a beach with some decent surf so after a night relaxing on our balcony with the only two other young backpackers at the resort we rented a surfboard.
Within the first five minutes of Sammy taking it out into the water the rough surf had snapped the leash and also a fin so we spent the remaining hour of rental playing in the white wash which was still pretty good. When we were finished Sam put it back with the rest of the damaged boards and fortunately we weren't charged any extra.
We took a nice long walk along the beach and instead of picking up sea shells Sammy aligned a bunch of shoe shine bottles that had washed up on shore. There was so much rubbish that had washed up, it was hard to believe. We also spent some time throwing the Frisbee and taking some nice photos in the beautiful sunset. It was such a quiet place but a nice introduction to the Pacific coast so after a few days we were ready to move on and meet some other travelers so we headed straight for Lago de Atitlan (Lake Atitlan).
