Finally made it to Machu Picchu, the whole reason for this trip in the first place, but now I'm here, it seems a bit of an anti-climax. I had such a great time in Cusco, and in the jungle that I feel they've eclipsed the whole Machu Picchu experience. Plus I spent the whole train journey reading Harry Potter in a desperate attempt to finish it before anyone spoiled the ending for me (Rosey!). I also found myself taking more of an interest in the flora and fauna, and comparing it to the jungle stuff I'd seen. As everyone was huffing and puffing up the steps, I just thought how much easier it was than a hike through the jungle over rocks and through puddles. I do miss the jungle but I'm still deriving great pleasure from hot showers.
The most amazing thing that did happen is that while I was walking down the street in Aguas Calientes, I walked past another volunteer from the jungle that had left the week before me and had just finished a 5-day hike similar to the Inka trail. Small world!
