Hey everybody,
Been a while since we updated, as now we're on the north-east coast of Oz. Enjoyed a relaxing week with Angela, Aaron and Ida (thanks again for putting us up, entertaining us, doing the washing and generally not letting us pay for anything!) in Perth. We saw the city sights including the awesome King's Park, and visited the harbours of Rockingham and Fremantle. Were able to get close to koalas, kangaroos and wombats at Caversham Wildlife Park and Angela even took us to the movies to see Body of Lies (as Bond isn't out here yet - it angered Roy a lot!)
Caught our flight to Alice Springs, quite a bumpy little plane, but we arrived ok and found our hire car. Alice Springs is quiet. And that's about all there is to say about it! We stayed one night then left early to drive the 450 km to Uluru (thank you Aaron for doing all the driving). Arriving in the afternoon we headed straight to Kata Kjuta, or The Olgas, 50km away from Ayer's Rock. So impressive! 36 massive formations that you can walk between and around, and you can't get over the size, especially as apart from them there's just red dustland.
We walked with the flies (SO MANY FLIES) in our stylish head gear (see photos when they're loaded) to a scenic lookout then drove back to camp. After relaxing with the flies by the pool, as it was about 35 degrees by now, we headed to Uluru to see the sunset. Very impressive again; amazing how a big rock can just look awesome! After tourist photo taking we headed back for an early night. Next morning we were up around 6am, drove to Uluru to explore what we could. Accompanied by more flies we walked some of the base, seeing the cool paintings and craters that have been there for thousands of years.
Roy's family left that afternoon, leaving us to swim and relax. Then today we were up and off to the airport and flying to Cairns. Now we've just arrived and are settling in, seems like a cool hostel so far.
Hope all well with you all, keep us updated on everything please! Will try and upload photos soon, but for now you'll have to take my word that Australia agrees with us!
Lots of love from down under, XxX
