We took a night bus to Airlie beach and arrived at 10.30am to check into our hostel. We spent the day having a look round Airlie which was a nice little place with a lovely bay pool which made up for the lack of a decent beach. Well.. We've been spoilt recently! We had to check in with our sailing group then we went back to our hostel and watched the final game of the State of Origin series! We set off the sailing to the Whitsunday Islands on a tall ship called the New Horizon the next day. It was a great trip and we had a pretty quiet first day chatting to the rest of the people on the boat and getting use to the whole sailing thing!! We visited Whitehaven beach which is apparently rated as the third most beautiful beach in the world so that was pretty impressive. Later on we went for a scuba dive just off the beach which was really good and we got to see loads before enjoying a few drinks in the sun on the deck of the boat. Couldn't ask for much more really! We did some more snorkelling the next day and enjoyed the sunshine on the beach before heading back for Airlie beach late the next afternoon. We had a night out in Airlie to say bye to everyone we'd met although most people were pretty tired from the lack of sleep on the boat.
