We didnt arrive into melbourne until 11.30pm but by the time we had got the skybus to the city centre and a tram to st.kilda, which took longer than expected as we got on and headed north instead of south, we didn't get to our hostel until 1am. So straight to bed it was for us. St.kilda is the beach part of Melbourne and was a nice little town right by the beach. The next morning the weather was boiling so we went for a walk around st.kilda and down the beach where we saw some jellyfish and penguins. So from then on I decided I wasnt going in the water if there was jellyfish around!! That was about it from that day as we spent the afternoon doing our laundry as they were stinking and dirty from when they got damp in the fiji cyclone. The next day we headed into melbourne city centre and had a look around the shops and town. We had totally forgotten that it was nearly christmas but we soon remembered when we saw all the decorations and the ridiculous queues for the shops. Since we had decided not to bother with christmas presents we didnt actually do any shopping so due to andrews obsession with tall buildings we ended up in some skyscraper called eureka which is the tallest residential building in the southern hemisphere and had a good viewing deck where we could see the whole city without having to walk around it all! That evening we went for a walk down the st.kilda pier for the sunset as this is the home to a big colony of wild little penguins so we stayed there for a while watching the mummy pengiuns come back from the sea with tea for the babies which was pretty cool to see. the next day was our last and the weather was scorching once again so we went to Albert Park where the formula one racetrack is then spent the rest of the day down at the beach topping up our not so brown tans from fiji. Melbourne was pretty much just a little 4 day break to chill out and get ourselves sorted for the rest of oz, its a nice big city with a good vibe we just had a pretty relaxed time there. We had booked our transportation for the east coast and had to be up at 6am for the coach journey to Canberra.
Canberra was pretty much just a stop of point to break up the 12 hour journey to sydney as it was only a 9 hour drive instead, ha. It was a horrible drive with only two 20 minute stops which was no fun when its 30+ degrees outside! but its the cheapest way to travel so it had to be done. We didnt get there til 5pm and all we did was grab some tea then sleep. We left the next mornig at 9am so we really didnt see anthing at all but thought it would be rude not to stop in the Australian Capital.
