Hello again. . . Well we made it to Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital, after a steady 6 hours bus journey. The bus wasn't one of the best I had ever been on, but it did the job. . . We made a few stops on the way, but nothing much to report really. I did my usual reading, listening to music and sleeping and the time seemed to fly by again and we were there before I knew it. . .
Prior to leaving Siem Reap I made a decision to lighten my load a bit, something I should have done a long time ago. . . . I always remember Ian telling me that weight is the enemy when travelling and that you never need as much as you carry. . . . But it is hard at first, you like to have all your nice things and also if you have been through different climates then that also makes things difficult, but anyway, I decided to off load some of my tee shirts, I think to a worthy cause?! As the people at the guest house were so nice, I asked if they wanted the clothes and they jumped at the chance, some shorts, track suit bottoms and about 7 tee shirts later, there were some big smiles coming from a few of the guys who worked there, plus I had a lighter bag, so a win win situation!
So, with my lighter bag, we arrived at Phnom Penh and after the slight onslaught of people wanting to give us a lift we headed off on a tuk-tuk to the lake area of the city, which was supposed to be a back packer area and had a reasonable write up. . . I hadn't heard many good reports about the capital city, with many stories of muggings, etc, so we weren't planning on staying too long. . . We got to the guest house we had chosen and were reasonably happy with the rooms. We didn't really venture out too far and ended up just having a few beers over looking the lake and taking in the sunset. Yeah, the detox didn't last too long, I know. . . ! We then made the decision that we would leave the next day, in the afternoon following a mini city tour. We had an earlyish night and in the morning took a tuk-tuk to the cities temple. There were some beautiful buildings, but to be honest, it's not really my thing, so we didn't stay too long. We then went off to some of the cities other highlights before heading back to the guesthouse to freshen up before catching the bus to the coast, as we had decided to go to Sihanoukville, some 4 hours south. . . .
The bus journey was OK, same same, but different! And we got there to the usual greeting. . . So we jumped into a taxi and headed towards Victory beach area and found a great complex with modern style rooms, etc, plus there was a pool. . . ! It was very clear that we would be happy here for a few days chillin out. .
We managed to watch the footy the other night, but I didn't wake up with my alarm for the rugby, so only managed to watch the last 7 or 8 minutes. . . . But what a result, who would have thought that England would get the the Rugby world cup final, again. . . . Can't wait for the re match with South Africa, hopefully we will fair a little better than the last game with them?!?!
We have chilled out on the beach and the other day we went out on a boat trip, snorkling, etc. . . . It was nice to get out and about and we saw 3 small islands. I also managed to play a bit of beach volleyball on one with some guys off the trip and some locals. . . !
The last few nights have been a little heavy to say the least, staying out partying til the sun comes up, but hey, whatever, it all good fun?!?!!?
We have also met some nice people here and have also been out for food and drinks with them. . . . The local people are also beautiful and really friendly! It's nice here!
Well, I am struggling at bit here, trying to recover from this hangover. I might go and drop in the pool for a bit. . . . We are probably heading off again tomorrow, over to Vietnam, so will let you know how we get on there. . . . By for now peeps :-)
