After arriving in Malaysia miles from anywhere, I managed to get myself to the centre of Kuala Lumpur. Some challenge at that time of night without spending a small fortune. With most of the hostels booked up, I ended up staying in a hostel in China Town. The rooms where as you could imagine not pleasant, however as I only paid two pounds a night I plodded on.
Kuala Lumpur is as I imagined a high rise metropolis. The 3rd tallest building in the world stands in the dead centre of the city surrounded by buildings all around, towering over everything. It's an Asian version of New York.
The city has many sites to see however most can be seen and experienced in a day. Having been to the top of one of the high-rises, visiting the palace and various other museums, I found that there isn't much else to do other than shop.
Like New York, it's a city based mainly around its flash shopping centres and modern buildings. I would recommend people visit for a day or two stopover but any longer would be boring.
I catch the train to Singapore tomorrow and look forward to another big city (if not slightly more glamorous).
