Friday 8th May
After a nice Breakfast, we drove up highway 29 through the Napa valley, it was very beautiful and got better the further north we went. There were mile upon mile of vineyards as far as the eye could see. We drove to the end of the highway then turned round and headed back down the valley, stopping off at the quaint town of St Helena. We had been given some tasting vouchers from the hotel we stopped at and stopped off at the first one which was the BV vineyard, we had tried some of their wine the night before which was very nice, the tasting centre however was very big and commercialised, we later found out the family business had been bought by Nestle. We decided not to stay and moved on to the Franciscan vineyard who had a beautiful patio so we sampled a few of the wines in the sunshine (due to Robin driving I had to finish off his). We then drove along the valley to another vineyard called Raymond where we sampled some of their wines, very nice!! This vineyard was set way back off the road and was quiet peaceful.
After the the tasting we made our way back down towards San Francisco and over the Golden Gates bridge which was still quite clear to see. We headed down the coast and had planned to stop at Santa Cruz but we weren't impressed with, so we carried on and stopped at a town called Watsonville for the night, it was getting late by now and we were really tired.
