The time dedicated to this blog so far has been rather limited, I knew, but apparently people were paying attention so I had better get on it!
In the last brief instalment I was about to head into THE WORLDS DEEPEST CANYON. despite being an awesome euphemism it is actually a very big gash in the spinning rock we all call home. The Facebook (they should have kept the 'the') has pictures as you may have seen, but the scope and beauty of this place isn't really done justice with a digical camera. The walk down, which was the best part of a day wasn't exactly stable, lots of rocks, slippy bits and the aftermath of the odd landslide meant bits of the path were replaced by.... Well, nothing. Had a few gaps to jump. Apparently I get quite bad vertigo. At the bottom was the 'oasis' which to be fair, was a few swimming pools, though the water in the came from atop the mountains that surrounded you. After a night in a converted cow shed (converted means the cows were beds instead) me and me Hicks mounted a mule each and let them do the walk back up. Liz, stubbornly, walked! Loser!
After this mad adventure it was back to Ariquipa for a night and then back to Lima to collect Mr Richard Mcdougal and Miss Laura Floss. However this was the point where my insides decided to be outsides! Might be deli belly (though I am some distance from India) might be Cholera. But at one point I had less water in my body than a piece of beef jerky. Mmmmmm beef jerky. Wait I was talking about my poop... Maybe I should stop.
I had some horrible salty water and Gatorade and after 48 hours I was able to move further than the toilet. We went to the park and was told I couldn't lie down by security, i think he was flaunting his authority somewhat because I am looking more and more like a hippy every day.
We then set off to Huacachina again so the new arrivals could get some sandboaring in. and now, after rather a long but very comfortable coach ride (coaches here are AMAZING) We are in Cusco. Where the air is thin and the hills are big!! And, just after we got here here, there was a massive thunderstorm, so slightly different to the desert oasis we were surrounded by yesterday... Slightly.
Hmmm, I was going to try and be more interesting but this has turned out to be longer and more boring than I thought. I will do my best to keep up to date and then I can talk more rubbish at you all. Time now for llama curry and Tandoori guinea pig skewers. Seriously!
