Exploring the known and unknown

Magic moments
At times words fail when you experience the unexpected. It seems wherever you are there are several wild game park nearby.
Instead of following the usual route there it gives you an opportunity to drive through a park entering on one side and exiting from the other. Today we entered from there area where we had stayed and instead of driving out on the other side we just took some side roads to see what happens. (and plenty did)
Although we had a map we still had trouble to find out where we were. Signage is not a big thing in South Africa. We covered a few hundred km just driving the dirt track slowly at the max speed of 40 km/hour. Every corner or bend could reveal a surprise by way of a sudden encounter of an animal ranging from an Elephant or a Lion to a lone turtle.
Coming out of the park we entered Zulu land which presented a new challenge as we were faced with detours due to road works. As a result we got completely lost as many of the alternative side tracks were not sign posted. The GPS went on tilt as it could not even find any roads at times. For three hours we battle corrugations, potholes, cracks, humps, dips, rocks, gravel ,sand and stray women in the middle of the track carrying their shopping or whatever on their head.
A thunderstorm was looming in the distance. Frank and I looked at each other. You wanted to see Africa? Well…This is it!

nat love all the animal photos, amazing how close they are to you
Ab Brielle Geweldig mooie foto's Richard en we genieten weer van je verhalen.
Harry Geritz Richard, I enjoy the way you discribe your travels, nice pics to. Interesting and easy to read and sometimes it puts a smile on my face. I't feels like I'm back there sometimes, thanks to your observing way of discribing things. Is it easy to find accommodation? Oke; keep in touch..and remember, you can only get lost if you're geoning somewhere....
Irene Hartsuyker This is fascinating reading Richard. We are really enjoying hearing about your adventures. Great photos too!
