Although the journey to Eden was only short it was not uneventful. First stop was a town called Central Tilba, a heritage listed town. It would appear that the clock stopped in this town a very long time ago, and I only hope it stays this way.
On the second leg of the journey we had a small puncture and had to change the wheel on the van on a very hot day.
Now arriving at Eden, well the campsite at least lived up to its name, with the lake a stones throw away and the sounds of the ocean lapping at the sands in the distance; it was all we could have asked for. Now Eden is/was famous for, believe it or not, Killer Whales, not native to the shores of Eastern Australia this may seem strange. However, Eden used to be a large whaling community where a symbiotic (sorry Kate, I know you're blonde used a big word, symbiotic means....only joking) relationship was developed between man and Killer Whale where the Killer Whales would round up the other whales for the whalers to whale (Gem's note: how many times can Rich say Whale in one sentence!)
Sorry for the educational session I just found this interesting when I was talking to the bloke who was making my pizza...this nomadic lifestyle is so tough!!!
Anyway, new tyre in the morning and we are off to Lakes Entrance, which from what I can gather, from books etc sounds like a fishing village trying to be a cross between Blackpool and Costa Del Mar....sounds interesting
Gem's note: Eden will be the benchmark by which all future campsites are judged...its all in the name really. It was here that a lovely pharmacist gave me some advice on how to sort out my mangy infected toe (Michelle, this is a special 'Toe Update' just for you) Cue half hour later I'm resting my toe on an ice pack while Rich digs out an ingrowing toenail with a needle....oh, so romantic!
