After a short holiday in Cambodia we are ready to move on and this evening we will be in Bangkok. During our time in Vietnam several other travellers told us not to spend any time here, to just pass through a few days and carry on to Thailand, but im SO glad we did. This country is amazing, considering the very recent history and the suffering they have been through Cambodians remain happy, smiley and helpful. I shall miss you fish Amok (everyone needs to google this recipie and cook it), I shall miss you too Tuk Tuk drivers, I shall miss $3 rooms, and $5 pitchers of Mekong whisky and coke, and I shall miss you too 50 cent pints of Angkor Beer :)
But dont worry Cambodia, we will be back! If you havent seen it; look at the PACDOC photo album of the orphanage for poor, street children and orphans. Emma found it quite accidently and at the sight of Western faces children appeared from all over and rushed to the classroom sitting quietly just waiting to be taught. She took me there the following day armed with supplies of pens, paper, English books, jigsaws, skipping ropes and footballs and the same thing thing happened, they saw and ran into the classroom and just sat smiling.
They have one open classroom and two sheds where the children sleep and eat, and have plans on the wall for a brand new school house and accomodation blocks thats just waiting to be built, but the cost for the entire build is $11,000 which they dont have.
So, when we return to England we will be on a serious fund raising effort, not only funds, but clothes, blankets, school supplies etc. If anyone has any birght ideas in the mean time please let us know and hopefully someone at school may let us do some assemblies when we return??? (its a while i know)
We could have spent months here, but we have the world to see, but we will never forget that place1
