Just before you all correct my spelling or immigrant... let me tell you this. They'll only let me have a certain number of characters on the title line and immigran sounds even worse!
So I'm guessing you're wondering how I managed it? Well, I'd like to tell you that I trekking through the DRC whilst tracking gorillas without a guide and then that I hacked my way through the jungle with my machete and found myself in Uganda, running away from Rwandan rebels... but the truth is, I walked right through the gate without noticing the little man who was sitting on his chair behind the money changers and that he then shouted and wagged his finger at me and called me a silly girl. See, not that exciting really, but at least I grabbed your attention with the title line... and now you probably feel as though you are obliged to read the rest of my ODRIAD (oh dear Rhiannon's in Africa diary!)
So, here I am in Kampala! AT LAST! After a nine hour bus journey from Kigali. I have never known such luxury as the last few days. On the bus I had my own RECLINING! (yes reclining) seat, and it wasn't too hot or too cold and there were no chickens. When we got to Kampala to our budget HOTEL FIANCE, (yes that's how they spell it!) we had HOT WATER. Just to fill you in, I've not had a hot shower in almost two weeks, I feel disgusting and all my clothes smell like a sewer. It's just not attractive.
Last night we scoured the guide book for a good night out and ended up going to the music night at the national theatre. We got there at about eight thirty, even though the guide book said seven, and people were already packing up to leave. What a let down! and after 10/10 and a special * report! Well, we decided to stay for a beer (ugandan club beer is incidentally the worst beer I've ever tasted) and then the party really started! They weren't packing away... they were setting up! They played a lot of reggae and even made "Lady in Red" sound as if it were written by Bob Marley. We met some guys that work for Magic fm (a ugandan, govenment owned radio station) and Lucia and I have been invited to go and give an interview and do some operatic-style desert island discs!
Lucia drew the short straw last night and had to share my twin bed... she drew the short straw because I hog the bed and kick in my sleep. But apparently I was well-behaved last night, even if I did push her off at one point!
Hope you're all well, and now that I'm staying at a backpacker lodge in Kampala I shall be updating my blog for the last few weeks... sorry for my pathetic updates! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
