Off we headed then towards Port Fairy and to see the Great Otway Coast line with all its lookouts and what not. The first of these stops was the Gibson steps. Not really sure who Gibson was, or what he did other than maybe making some steps, but either way there was a staircase running down to the beach stuck to a cliff which was about 70 foot high. Down on the beach you get a real sense of what it might feel like to have been washed up on these shores… espec...

So on the 30th of January 2011 at oh 900 hours or so, Regina and I embarked on our great Great Ocean Road adventure. It was meant to be, then it wasn't meant to be and then it was meant to be again and now it was to be. We left foster early enough as the drive was going to be a long one. Its about two hours to Melbourne and about another two to get out the other side to Apollo Bay. Traffic in Melbourne wasn't too bad and we had the route planned out really well...

After Merimbula we had our first long drive down to a place called Foster. Again this place was chosen by necessity as it was between where we were and the Great Ocean road without being in Melbourne, and it had hostel available for a reasonable price, reasonable might be spelt reasonible.....??? We thought it would be a decent enough looking town, but it wasnt, it was a bit of a one horse town, with one horse. Not sure what that actually means but the place was ...

So on we go to Merimbula. I have to add at this point, that the places we decided to stay along the coast were kind of chosen for us by the fact that they were all places that had YHA hostels in them. We had no real idea of where we were going to visit along the way and kind of just ended up in these places. We had been told that there were lots of lovely places to stop along the way, and we stopped at some of them and not others. Jervis Bay being a fine example ...

So, the short drive down the coast continued and next stop along the Grand Pacific Highway was the little town of Narooma. Its probably fair to say that anyone who has been along the coast from Sydney to Melbourne to do the Great Ocean road may only have passed through these towns.
