Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So today is Jessie's 30th birthday and we're not there. I feel terrible about that, but knowing that she is with her wonderful husband and her gorgeous baby boy, and that two of her sisters will visit her up the coast while she's on holiday makes me feel a little better. And I filled her Facebook page with birthday spam! We had breakfast up in La Terrazza. We went to a 1.5 hour talk/slide show on the construction of the canal, followed by a rest in our suite while we watched the episode of great industrial feats about the Panama Canal. We then ventured up to the pool deck to grab a small bite for lunch. After lunch we went to a talk by that documentary maker that is on board - he's quite famous apparently, has won awards and been knighted by the Portuguese government. He spoke about Panama, Costa Rica and some of the Caribbean islands. At 5 we went downstairs for trivia, joined by our usual 2 Aussies Jane and Joe, the Brit Anne and 2 more Aussies, Cheryl and Graham, and then a Californian in a wheelchair. He thought we were all quite entertaining - he said we were having more fun than anyone else. I don't know about the rest, but I know we aren't playing for cattle stations! So, we came second!! Lots of fun. We stayed and chatted for a bit and then returned to our suite to prepare for dinner. Dinner was interesting. As we were waiting for the restaurant to open, the waiters were carrying new chairs in. When we get to Fort Lauderdale our ship will be going in to dry dock for new carpets and such, but I suppose other bits and pieces can be replaced as we go. So, we were returning to La Terrazza with a booking at 7 but this time we had a Russian waitress, Natalia, who seemed to think she was the entertainment. Dinner took ages as we stared at our dirty plates far too long. Oh dear. We are expecting excellence aren't we? It was probably made worse by the tiny bird perched on the rail outside. I didn't think he was big enough to have the strength to fly so far, and Tom said he had pleading eyes. After dinner we returned to our suite. ''Twas a no news day over here!
