Colleen & Tom's Explorations
After a restless night we went off to breakfast - aah!! Tomato juice, raisin bran, smoked salmon omelette for me, eggs Benedict for Tom! We had arrived in Safaga - a pretty stark desert mountainous landscape where they specialise in exporting phosphates. We hopped on a shuttle bus to take us to the Holiday Inn. The entry way to the port was manned by military guards with machine guns, and the coach driver was questioned on the way in and out. At the Holiday Inn - about 10 mins away - there were about a dozen little shops. We bought some t-shirts for the girls, and Tom, as well as some postcards, and a little sandstorm dome for Sophie. We then went into the Holiday Inn and saw a telephone room. We asked the price to phone Australia and the little man said 19 Egyptian pounds. So he rang the girls for us and we chatted to them for 8 minutes. Then he told us the cost was 191 Egyptian pounds!! Because it was per minute!!! Expensive phone call. So we came back to the ship a little cross!
We had a lovely lunch - we were dying for salads!! After lunch we checked out the ship's shops and bought a few things and then went to the tour office to organise our land content tours. We thought we'd celebrate then by trying the "Drink of the Day"- Daquiris - down in the Yacht Club and accidently came in at the start of Music Trivia - it was fun and the drinks were nice. Then we started organising ourselves for our first formal night on board.
