Hi Rachel,
Now what is this, deciding to go to London so you didn't have to face up to that Polar Bear Plunge. Now we know you're not into long runs down mud flats, no matter what the temperature, but all the ice smoothed over those barnacles so they wouldn't feel prickly. And the mud wasn't too squishy, because it was nearly frozen. And the seaweed wasn't slippery, jsut kind of crunchy with all the ice. So what was the problem? They even built a huge bonfire, and Lida had on a fir coat that made her look as if she were on a Dior fashion piste in Paris, instead of getting read to make that run and splash. So we had the whole fashion thing right here at the boatyard. No need to go out to Saville Row or the West End in London.
Anyway, we missed you, and looked across, beyond Brown Cow, and wondered what you might be up to, a little north of Portugal. Why all you have over there in London is dank, dark cold, none of the light fluffy stuff we get here in sub-zero temperatures. I always wondered how civilization could ever develop in those rainy, dreary, gray places. Maybe you'll find out.

We miss you but I so happy that you are having a great time! Guess what- today was the Polar Bear Swim and the Chili and Chowder Challenge. My chicken soup won first place! Maybe now you will look forward to eating it!
Our plane tickets came today! Our trip to London is beginning to seem real! Next week we plan to apply for our passports. Can you let me know how the boys can get their student id?

In case you haven't heard, it's c-o-o-o-ld here! My thermometer in Wiscasset made it up to zero degrees for about fifteen minutes but it's back down to -1 and falling. Kay-Kay has been accepted to the University of Utah and has decided to study either nursing or phamacology there. Elizabeth is still in Holland after visiting here over the holidays and having Kay-Kay visit her at Thanksgiving. What a bunch of world travelers all you kids are! Enjoy your year abroad and I'll look here for updates!
