First Nations cemetery - Kamloops
Traditionally, First Nations people crenated their deceased on top of the mountain overlooking Kamloops. When Europeans arrived, they could not accept this cultural practice and forced First Nations people to bury their dead in this cemetery. In order to keep peace, the First Nations did this, but would return at night, dig up their deceased and take them up the mountain for their traditional funeral rites. Many of the tombstones are only a foot apart as many bodies were not actually buried here.
