Naples is chaotic, dirty and full of vendors. No they weren't exaggerating (Naples has a reputation). I went for the pizza and Capri but was pleasantly surprised- in a way. Just a 50 minute hydrofoil ride from Naples, Capri is an adorable island with beaches, hiking and shopping. The ancient city of Pompeii was covered by meters of volcanic ash on August 24, 79 CE after Mt Vesuvius erupted. Thus, the ruins are very well preserved. There is a large amphitheater, baths made of marble and with carvings on the walls, as well as ruins of a basilica. And that's only the beginning. It was a huge city. Rome is a large, busy metropolis intermixed with ruins. Everywhere. Even in Termini train station- in the McDonalds downstairs lol. It's really cool. From half broken columns to fully intact, breathtaking arches, the ruins are quite something.
