Ciao! We had a fantastic day in Rome. We had a private tour of the Vatican before it opened to the public. Woman had to have shoulders and knees covered, and men needed full pants out of respect. The Sistine chapel was amazing. Afterwards we went to watch the Pope speak!
Later we had a tour of the Colleseum. It's very beautiful inside, lots of history. That evening we went to Saint Peters Basilica, the largest church in the world. The porta sancta (doors of absolution) were open. If you pass through them you are absolved of all your sins. The last time they were open was in 2000. They usually only open every 25 years but this is a holy year.
We had dinner with our group in a restaurant right infront of the colleseum. There was an accordion player and singer to entertain us. Our meal consisted of bruschetta, pasta, salad, pizza, tiramisu, and wine and beer! We finished our night with drinks at the hotel bar with friends. Perfect way to end our trip! We head home Sunday so now we say arrivederci!
