After further altitude acclimatisation in Quito which stands at over 3000 metres above sea level we flew to Lima and a short stay in the Milaflores district before picking up another G Adventures tour of Peru. We had selected this Absolute Peru tour particularly and once again we were not disappointed both with Itinarary and mix of fellow passengers. The first couple of days were spent driving down the coast in the lunar landscape which is beatiful in its own way...

With all the planning done and bags packed we are on the road again travelling to Ecuador and Peru to visit Galapagos and hike the Inca Trail both having been on my wish list for some time. We flew to Quito via Madrid on a fairly uneventful BA/Iberia flight and made our way from the new airport into the city centre a distance of about 20kms but travellers beware this journey can take over 2 hrs in heavy traffic and we almost missed a later flight to Lima in Frida...

Leaving Stonetown we headed on the long drive to Moshi. We had to camp well short of Moshi and the cloudy conditions meant we could not see Mt Kilimanjaro. Loud music during most of the night meant little sleep but also this was the worst night for mosquitoes ! The following day we made camp at Arusha the base camp for our visit to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks. Serengeti is a massive area and seven times the size of the Masai Mara reserve in Kenya...

Following on from last blog entry Indra and I took the motorised hang glider flights over Vic Falls. Another true life experience as you sweep out over the falls lip and through the spray and then viewing a herd of elephants drinking in the Zambezi, a submerged family of hippo and vultures feasting on a dead hippo. It was a bit scary but really glad we did it. During the short flight you fly over Zimbabwe and my pilot advised me he sees more elephants on the golf...

Loads of kilometeres travelled since last posting !!!. We stayed outside Etosha Park and made several game drives inside where we were lucky to see plenty of animals including cheetah, rhino, zebra , giraffe, elephant and all the antelope types. Sleeping in the open is fantastic at night as through the vents you can see most of the galaxies clearly. The sounds are also fantastic. From Etosha we made our way to Waterberg Plateau which is a fantastic rocky outcrop ...
