We're up at 5.30am, early starts are now well and truly an engrained habit of this trip. We taxi to the airport, climbing up and up and up out of La Paz with the city sprawled sparkling for miles below us. By 7am we're at the airport and are told to wait until 7.30am to check-in. At check-in we are told to go to our gate where we'll be given some information as to the delay situation at 8am. 8am comes and goes. No information comes to us. The screens change to 9...

La Paz...We sleep in and enjoy the great shower in our ensuite. We head up a floor for breakfast but are left a little disappointed by our tea/coffee and one piece of rock hard bread with jam. Rock hard bread for breakfast is starting to wear a little thin. We're off early to suss out flight prices and tours to the Amazon and head to the offices of America Tours, mentioned in Lonely Planet. We've been tossing up whether to do the 'scary as hell mountain bus ride...

We have another 6am start to get to the bus station. Early starts have, much to my disgust, become something of a habit on this trip! We pay our departure tax and are left with 11 soles to our names, so we blow it on some typically junky bus snacks! We drop our bags with our bus company, Pan Americano, which looks pretty dodgy from its bus terminal stand, and we are wondering if the hostel has put us on a less than desirable bus. As we wait for our departure time...
