We arrived in Aus pretty early in the morning and noticed the vast difference between the two continents. We arrived at our accommodation in Cairns and were shocked at how much a hotel it was like and the prices everywhere for everything were so expensive (a mars over here is 1 pound 50) We were in for a rocky/expensive ride. Non the less our hostel called Gilligans was mighty impressive though having a pool, gym, club and huge bar. In Cairns there was this pretty chilled out lagoon where we spent most of our time as the sea was really far away and had lots of dangers to it such as jellyfish. We had a good couple of nights there as they had really good night life with a place called woolshed being immense doing a really good cheap steak as well (it had been too long)
We soon booked up a 3 day trip to Cape trib and Port Douglas and found it a lot more expensive for trips here in Oz than Asia. We met these girls in Singapore and Ko lanta a while before and it ended up being her birthday so as we were out till late ended up missing our bus for the trip which was not fun and ended up having to book another bus asap. Our accommodation was pretty good but far from anywhere. Our New bus driver turned out to be a hero so its alright he was really funny and telling us of all the dangers of Austrailia eg deadly jellyfish, cassowaries (big birds), sharks, snakes, spiders, barracuda, saltwater crocs etc. He also told us about drop bears which is a myth that all aussies tell tourists to scare them but it made me laugh all the same. He had been stung by an Irukandji (Carukua barnesi) inhabits Northen Australian waters. This is a deadly jellyfish, which is only 2.5 cenimetres in diameter, which makes it very hard to spot in the water. (copied and pasted that)
Anyway beacause of all these dangers we couldnt swim, gutted. While in cape trib we went on a night walk (saw a snake and a crocs red eyes 100 metres away) We somewhat fornunatly on the way back did some more tours which we missed after waking up late such as croc watch on a river where we saw a 3 and 5 metre croc was pretty cool with the guide being on form with his humour.
We hitched a ride with Laura & Lucy (two girls form Ko lanta, Singapore and Cairns/birthday girl missing bus excuse) from Cairns, We arrived and stayed at a place called Scotty's in Mission beach. The only reason we came here was to skydive as it is rated as the best place in aus to do it. Apart from sit around a pool all we did here was skydive and watch movies.
Skydiving - my fellow tandem bloke was from zimbabwe nad bald but the coolest head in that plane so i was in good hands and he said we'd do tricks while in freefall so i was game. All he told me to do was get in a banana shape i was going to ask for more tips but thought he might think i was uncool. It was a 15 min plane journey to get to 14,000 feet when the doors opened and we shuffled out one by one and i was 3rd to go. I was surprised that i wasnt too nervous even sitting on the edge of the plane. The first few seconds of the jump were incredible where the adrenaline just takes control and i just found myself shouting wooooo. We did a few 360 spins in freefall which added to the immense occasion. We went through a cloud which was a bit prickly but as we emerged we had a spectaular view of mission beach and the little islands off the coast. As the parachute went up we did loads more 360 spins in the air for a good panoramic view before landing on the beach. One word and that is Immense, everyone has to do it. Now i just wait to do it again in New Zealand. Woooo
