Zagreb, mmm, if I can sum it up after a day and a half it's with 3 G's: God, grafitti and goths.
God: the centre of the capital of Croatia is the Catholic cathedral! And the main square. There are so many devotional spots here and there, including a transition alley from the old city to the new where locals come to give flowers and thanks and pray. And just up from there is an enormous deserted square. Beautiful but deserted because it's where the offices of government are. Some time ago the prime minister/president decided that the noisy demonstrators who would often gather in the square disturbed the peace too much. Now when someone lodges their demonstration with the police then the streets to this area are cordoned off. It feels ghost-like.
Graffiti everywhere all over the reachable areas of beautiful old buildings. What happened?
Goths; lots of black, metal, dark appearances. One street scene that I wish I had on camera: 3 young goths walking along, lots of long black clothes , funny hats and a bit of white clothing peeking through. And striding along beside them a nun looking not dissimilar at all.
