Passage through the Beagle Channel is trechorous. Ships travelling from Ushuaia to the Pacific Ocean muse head out 15km to round the lighthouse before heading almost all the way back into Ushuaia and out towards the Pacific. Those that tried short cuts have suffered dire consequences
