At 3 years of age, the horse is introduced to the saddle and a rider. Bits are not yet used. Instead they use a rope over the nose to direct the horse. The Bit is later added and riders use reins attached to both the bit and the nose band (ie 4 reins) gradually increasing the usage of the reins attached to the bit until the horse is comfortable
