This is the island that the birdman competitions were held on. Participants had to swim out to the island, then wait (sometimes for days or weeks) for the sooty terns to arrive, nest and lay the first egg. The participant that captured the first egg and showed it to the watchers on the main island won the competition and his tribe ruled for the next year
