Hi Everyone!
At the moment we're in Nha Trang, a beach town in Vietnam. Today we've been sunbathing at the Louisiana Cafe, which has a pool on the beach you can use. We'll be here a few more nights before making our way further North and eventually the capital city Hanoi.
Last time we wrote we were in Cambodia making our way to the city Siem Reap. We spent 4 nights there and had a great time, it's our favorite city so far. We visisted the temples of Angkor which were amazing. They're temples and other buildings built by the Kings of Cambodia around 900 years ago, you can get a day pass and make your way round the woods to visit them. It would take a few days to a week to see them all but we managed about 6 incuding the main temple Angkor Wat which was absolutly huge. The whole place was beautiful and it was great walking round, up until the point we made our way down a path that was spider-infested! - Really big ones too that looked like the were on stilts there legs were that tall. EEK!!! Luckily I survived! There were also loads of wild monkeys around, one which decided to attack a tourist and so was told of by one of the security guards who had to stand and watch him - the monkey did not look happy!!
We loved Siem Reap and all the bars and cafes in the centre, portions were huge and when we couldn't finish lunch one day James called over a little boy who was begging on the street. He offered him some garlic bread which the boy took before taking the rest off the plate and then moving onto my plate and putting all the food into his bag. He was cheeky but we like him and his cute smile, he went off to share the food with his friends.
Our next destination was Ho Chi Min City (Saigon) in Vietnam. We took the bus. The city is big with the busiest traffic we've seen on the trip yet! So Many motobikes! One night we went for a walk through the park and there were all these people playing with a shuttlecock type ball with feathers on the end. You play in twos or fours like tennis and have to kick the shuttlecock to each other with the back of your feet behind your body. James was hooked and it wasn't before long he joined in with some amateur westerners and bought some to bring home (the Vietnamese were brilliant at it and were showboating and everything). So we met Paul from Australia and James from London (their names were really hard to remember(!)) We went for a few drinks with them after their exhausting game, they were on a 21 day trip and had just met as roommates that day.
After so many cities, we were ready for the beach again. We went to Mui Ne, a surfers beach 4 hours from Saigon. The place was full of kite surfers which were amazing to watch in the sea, we found a great place to stay with a pool and a cool surfer type beach bar. Here we met Karin, a kite surfer from France where she owned a ski school company. She was 43 but with the body of a 25 year old, she was learning English but could already speak it quite well. She insisted that we correct her whenever she said something wrong and kept hitting James everytime he forgot to correct her! She was travelling on her own and must have been glad of the company because she never left us alone. She was crazy! She had been there 3 days and already knew everybody - and those who she didn't know she stopped to talk to anyway like they'd been friends for years. The next day she had us renting mopeds for the day with her and we travelled to the red and white sand dunes and stopped of for sea food at a little local resteraunt. We had a great time, despite been caught in the rain on our bikes on the way home, I burried my head into James's back, the rain was hitting us so hard it stung! That night we felt like some Karin-free time and went out for some supper. It wasn't long before we heard 'I've been looking for you everywhere!'.. she had found us!
And so here we are, a little further up from Mui Ne in Nha Trang. Its a beautiful place here and the food is amazing and so cheap. Our room is great and air conditioned and only $10! Wish Thailand was as cheap as here!
Wish we could get the photos to work on here - we have so many now but it just doesn't seem to work - If anybody has any ideas let us know. Will try and get them on flickr.com where we already have a few, not sure how you find them though? - sorry! If all else fails we'll try in Australia where the computers will be quicker and more reliable.
So bye for now everyone - miss you all!!
Love Paula and James x x
