Another entry from a boat! But I'll carry on from where I left you on the boat back from the Full Moon Party. We got off at around 9am, and there were loads of middle aged tourists sitting on the pier taking photos of us all. I suppose it must have been a sight, a couple of hundred subdued, bedraggled people covered in UV paint traipsing in single file off of the boat at 9am!
There was a man holding our names on a card so we assumed he was our transfer to our hotel and got in his taxi (read: truck), along with a few others. Only once we had climbed on and he had shut the back did he ask us for 50 baht each! The journey was about 3 minutes long and he made about £8 - extortionate by anybody's standards! He didn't even drop us at our hotel, just down the road! I hate being a tourist sometimes, when you get so obviously taken on the proverbial ride, and you know it is happening but you have no other choice.
Back at the hotel we had just under an hour before we had to check out, so we showered and got all of the UV paint off of us, and packed our bags. We then went for breakfast, but Vicky, Rosie and I all chose wraps/sandwiches! I had a cajun chicken wrap - not very breakfasty and maybe a little bit too spicy for first thing in the morning, but tasty all the same. We went to the beach where I started reading a book by Sophie Kinsella called Remember Me. At 1.30pm we had to say goodbye to Rosie because she was leaving for Bangkok to fly home, which was sad, but Vick and I will see her again in Melbourne!
Vix and I then headed to the pool where I spent the whole afternoon reading my book (I finished it!) and burnt my arms a bit because they were out of the water the whole time. They feel quite hot now.
Luckily the hotel had a little bathroom we could use so I had a shower and washed my hair and covered myself in aftersun before heading outside to watch the sunset and have some dinner (garlic and pepper chicken with rice).
We then moved to a super chilled out bar next to our hotel, aptly named 'The Bar Next Door' to wait for our pick up at 7am.
The pick up came and drove us the 3 minutes to the pier, where I assumed that our boat would leave at 7.30pm or something, but it actually leaves at 9pm! The boat is old and wooden and reminds me of the steamboats that go around Big Thunder Mountain at Disney. Inside is a big room with over 100 thin mattresses with teddy bear covers lined up next to each other with no gaps. At least we can sleep but it looks like we are either being transported to a prison, or like we are at a nursery school nap time!
It is 8.50pm now so fingers crossed we should embark on out 8 hour boat and 3 hour coach journey to Krabi in 10 minutes!
I haven't slept since Friday night so fingers crossed I will sleep like a baby, despite the stifling heat.
6am update:
I couldn't sleep in the stifling heat! So I went and sat on deck with my feet hanging over the side of the boat for about an hour, listening to music. It was really nice and peaceful, and I saw a couple of flying fish.
After a while I decided to give it another go downstairs and I managed to fall asleep almost straight away, not waking up until we docked.
We were ushered to a Tuk Tuk and taken to a little restaurant cum travel agent to wait for our bus. I was just thinking about putting my phone on charge in an empty socket - good job I didn't. Another man used a socket to charge his medicine which he needed (I assume it's a health monitor of sorts), and the owner of the place got really angry and they started arguing, and now it has turned into a full blown fight!!! They are screaming at each other outside and the female owner has been hitting the guy with a pole!
Scary!
