Hello again!
I left you during the fight at 6am this morning, it was quite scary but we couldn't see it once it had moved outdoors so I don't know what became of the man involved!
Not long afterwards we were told to get onto a minibus which would transport us to our big bus. I was so tired I fell asleep and when we stopped I assumed we would be getting onto the big bus, but we were already at Krabi!
We then had to wait 20 minutes to get into a pick up truck (there was no room in the back so we got to sit in the driver's cab) who took us from Krabi bus station into the town. Once in the town, we were told we had to wait another hour and a half for our transfer to Ao Nang! We had some breakfast at a nearby cafe to pass the time.
When our transfer arrived it was just like the truck we got to the trek in Chiang Mai. It was already full so we were told we would have to stand on the back for the 40 minute journey! If this was the first week I would have said no, but it didn't bother me at all this time. It is surprisingly easy to hold on even at speed so I just enjoyed the breeze and admired all of the amazing rock formations we were driving past.
We didn't have too much trouble finding out hotel, Ascot, once we were in Ao Nang. It is about a 15 minute walk from the beach. The hotel is one of the nicest we have stayed at, the towels were even shaped into little elephants, and we get free water! There are computers downstairs so I have been uploading some more photos. The screen is really wide here so I look about two sizes bigger than I actually am in all of the photos - hopefully that is not the same on yours!
We were too tired to head down to the beach, so we went down a little road next to our hotel. After walking about 50 metres, you would have no idea that you are in a busy resort town. It was silent, with huge rock formations above and trees all around - we could have been in the middle of nowhere.
We found a little resort with a swimming pool, and just stayed there for the day. It was so quiet and relaxing. We got talking to a nice Danish lady, who has one leg because she was in hospital and contracted an infection which is sad. She was telling us about her children, one of whom invented something to do with computers and was asked if he wanted to sell it. He said yes, expecting $1000 for it or something, but he got $50,000,000! I'm not 100% sure what it was that he created/invented, but it must have been good!
At around 3pm we heard some thunder, and felt some raindrops, so we decided to go back to the hotel. As soon as we got there it started chucking it down! To pass the time we used the computers and had a coffee (I forget to mention we get free coffee in our room too!).
We got changed for dinner and headed down the road to find somewhere. We were offered umbrellas in the foyer in case it rained again which was nice. This town has a Starbucks and a McDonalds - the only other place we have seen those two establishments is in Bangkok! The Ronald McDonald here greets you with a traditional 'wai' gesture - with his hands together in a prayer position and bowing his head. It is kind of incongruous because he is a clown and he looks very quiet and unassuming in that position.
We found an Indian restaurant in which all of the waiters and the manager are Indian, so we thought the food would be good. Vicky and I shared two vegetarian curries, one with lentils and one with potatoes - they were sooo tasty.
After dinner I fancied an ice cream so I bought a 'cone dip' from Maccy D's which is a small cone with vanilla whippy ice cream, dipped in melted chocolate which quickly sets to form a hard covering over the ice cream, it was tasty but I couldn't finish it all!
Vix has booked to go rock climbing tomorrow, but it isn't really my idea of fun so I am going to sit on the beach with Vick and take some pictures instead!
We came back to the hotel quite early and I have just been uploading photos ever since. I'm glad I am managing to get some uploaded along the way because otherwise the task of uploading them all in June would be huge! I want to upload a few albums to my blog but it is enough work getting them all on Facebook so I will sort out some photos when I get back. I want to get my blog printed so I am definitely going to try and put some photos up on it so that they will be printed too.
I have planned to meet Ed on Skype at 4am my time (9pm his time), so I am going to get some sleep now and set an alarm for 3.55am!
