Well we've made it to Townsville!
Not a great deal to report in terms of our day - we just travelled 750 miles in a Hyundai 8 seater, taking the scenic route to avoid the floods. We saw a kangaroo!
After over 8 hours of travelling it took us another half an hour in the rain to find a hostel in Townsville. We are staying in a really nice converted colonial style building, called the Foreign Exchange (google it and look at the pics!). I am in an all female dorm with thick carpet and a huge en suite with a roll top bath and a dressing table. There is also a modern kitchen and big living room with a huge tv, as well as another living room and a dining room. It feels really homely.
We cooked some dinner and just chatted for the evening. As you will know, a huge earthquake has hit Japan, and apparently a tsunami is about to hit the Australian coast. Luckily we chose a hostel about a mile inland so fingers crossed when it hits in three hours time we'll be ok...!
Watch this space!

Mum I'm glad you have all safely reached Townsville. Should that read 750km? I hope so otherwise you were driving very fast!
Lottie He was actually driving pretty fast...I was scared at times - I think it was a male ego thing. But we arrived safely and that's the main thing!
