Rain again!
We got up and changed to our second hostel, Brisbane City Backpackers. It was about a 20+ minute walk through the rain, uphill, with our backpacks.
Once we'd arrived though we were rewarded with a free upgrade from the $21 dorm we had booked, to an $105 private room! It is great to have a private room, but I can't see why anyone would actually pay $105 for a room with a bunk bed (double on bottom, single on top) and a bedside cabinet. That price would get you a reasonably nice hotel room at home!
Due to the rain, we ended up staying in our hostel all day. It was quite relaxing though, there is Internet and a free cinema with comfy sofas. We watched a film called Lions for Lambs with Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep, it was a bit crap.
I realised a few days ago that I am dangerously close to running out of money, so I have asked my parents to help me. I originally though I'd be okay but we have done some expensive trips like Fraser Island which I definitely wouldn't have missed but haven't helped the budget. I may not get an opportunity to go to Fiji or New Zealand again for a long time, so I think I would rather be in a few hundred pounds debt than be at home, slightly better off but kicking myself for missing out and seeing the other girls' pictures!
After the film I went online for over 2 hours and meticulously researched everything from the price of a theme park trip in Aud to a meal in Fiji to a packet of dry spaghetti in NZ, to come up with what I hope is a realistic figure to carry me through to the 7th of May, so that I could ask my parents and show them that I will use their money wisely. It was tiring work.
I'm in bed now with a bit of a headache, and a bit hungry, but should probably just sleep as it is gone midnight!
