Well we've had our first trip on the Greyhound!
I got up at 8.30am this morning and headed downstairs to Skype my parents at 11pm (their time, 9am my
time). I have discovered that Skype works on my phone which has opened a whole new world of cheap phone calls to me! It was really nice to talk to my parents and brother and to see my cats playing in the living room (that sounds really sad...).
At 10am all the others came downstairs and we got a taxi to the Greyhound terminal where, luckily, there were enough seats for us on the 11.30am bus to Airlie Beach. The taxi driver told
us that we didn't get a tsunami in the end because this part of the coast is protected by Papua New Guinea, which was a relief. There seem to be a lot of natural disasters happening at the moment! The bus was perfectly adequate, and we watched a film called 'Fire Down Below' about waste dumping in a Southern American state or something. Sounds boring but what I saw of it was quite good (I fell asleep halfway through). We arrived in Airlie Beach at around 3pm, and we are here until 7pm when we are getting back on the Greyhound to Hervey Bay, which will take about 12 hours. I've come to enjoy coach journeys though so I'm quite looking forward to it - it's a free night's accommodation! So bored. We have been in a cafe for ages but still have two hours to go!
There are trips to the Whitsundays from here, but the weather isn't quite good enough to warrant paying, so we have decided to save our money for a good tour on Fraser Island.
Hopefully from tomorrow I'll have some more interesting things to tell you, now we've finished travelling/attempting to travel we can actually do some sightseeing/tours!
