When we woke up this morning in Colin the Campervan it was so cold that we could see our breath. I had to snuggle with my clothes under my quilt for a bit until they were warm enough to put on!
After breakfast we drove down the road to have a quick look at Huka Falls. They are really cool, the water is so blue and frothy and rages like rapids to the bottom which just looks like foam.
We took some pictures before going to fill up with Diesel. 58.6 litres cost us £48, I'm not sure if that is good or not but I was pleasantly surprised.
From there we began our journey to Wellington. I drove for the first two and a half hours before we stopped for lunch at a picnic area. Hannah drove for a couple of hours after me and then Vicky did the last bit. The roads are so empty and the scenery is absolutely stunning. We saw everything from snow capped mountains to huge lakes and green rolling hills. It is definitely really safe to drive here. The highest speed limit is only 100kph (62 mph) and on every bend there is a sign telling you which speed is safest to take it at. I am actually really enjoying the driving and am quite impressed that we have picked up driving such a big van so easily - I don't think our parents really thought we could do it! We have parked up in a city centre car park for $8, it's quite a busy area next to a cinema and the huge Te Papa museum so I feel quite safe. It's really good that freedom camping is allowed here - there are literally campervans all over NZ!
After dinner we headed down the road to the local YHA hostel where we used their facilities. Internet, plug sockets, laundry etc, and tomorrow we're planning to use the showers!
