When I woke up in Wanaka I realised we were parked in front of a mountain range and next to a lake - the setting was amazing. I hadn't noticed in the dark when we arrived!
We showered in the local hostels before heading to a place down the road called 'Puzzling World'. There was a huge maze, where you had to find each corner - red, yellow, blue and green, and then find your way out. We found the corners but couldn't find our way out after over an hour so we had to give up and use an emergency exit. I was annoyed at the failure!
Afterwards we had a toastie and then headed to the optical illusion rooms which were really cool. There was water flowing 'uphill' amongst other things. There were loads of little puzzles to do in the cafe area too so we did those for a while.
Afterwards we headed to Te Anau, a four an a half hour drive, through more amazing scenery. We are in a campsite tonight to charge up. Hannah told the guy at reception that there were only two of us, so we only had to pay $35 instead of $70 which was good. Sophie and I had to lie down in the back whilst we drove to our site, it was quite exciting, like we were campervan stowaways or something.
We had potatoes for dinner followed by our mildly successful traffic light jelly, and then watched a film called Breaking and Entering. The cast was good, but the film had a bit of a non story.
Anyway, I'm driving to Milford Sound tomorrow, which is apparently for 'experienced drivers only', so I should probably get some sleep so I am fully prepared!
