I had such a bad night's sleep, I was itching so much from what was either mosquito bites or bed bug bites, and the fan in the room didn't reach me in the top bunk so I was so so hot. After a few hours of tossing and turn I got up and sat in the air conditioned common room and had a homesick cry! After an hour or so of watching the rugby I went back to bed where I ended up getting only two or three hours sleep - I did not want to get up when my alarm went off at 7.30!
I eventually dragged myself out of bed and had a jam sandwich for breakfast (the breakfast offering consisted of bread, jam and a toaster). We bought tickets for a hop on hop off open top bus tour like London, as well as a ticket to go up the KL Tower. The bus tour was nice but I was so tired I just did not fancy moving. We saw lots of things though including the National Museum which was interesting. It reminded me of a much smaller and less good Natural History Museum.
After a couple more cultural and scenic stops, we went to a shopping mall next to the Petronas Towers (which are so cool). I only started to perk up when I found myself surrounded by about seven floors of shops!
We even had lunch at Nandos! When we saw the sign we all squealed and sort of collapsed onto each other woth glee. After we were full of peri peri chicken, we looked in all of the designer shops and pretended we were going to buy things. I tried on a gold Cartier watch and tried not to choke when she told me it was £18,000. Instead I asked whether they had it in white gold, but it wasn't in stock so unfortunately I couldn't make my purchase! In Tiffany & Co we looked at the engagement rings. The standard Tiffany setting rings are my favourites and I really liked the Tiffany Legacy ring - Vix tried it on and we oohed and aahed and pretended she was actually engaged. I have never got too excited about jewellery before but I found myself getting all flustered in Tiffanys!
After all of the excitement of role play shopping and the subsequent downer when we realized we couldn't even afford the Topshop or Zara (they were there!) let alone the Marc Jacobs and the Chanel, we stopped for a coffee. I had a particularly tasty double chocolate latte.
After a pleasant but highly unproductive afternoon of 'shopping' we hopped back on the bus and headed to the KL Tower.
We wanted to see sunset but we were quite early so we got a drink and sat at the bottom of the tower for over an hour waiting for a reasonable time to go up. We eventually went up the 421m tower at around 6pm, in a super fast lift.
At the top was a 360 degree observation deck with amazing views of the city. We were given little handheld TVs with headphones which explained the view to us from each window which was really helpful. The sunset was a bit of a letdown because it was quite hazy and you couldn't see much, but to see the city at dusk with all the lights on was really cool, the Petronas towers especially.
By the time we got down, we had missed the last hop on hop off bus so we walked back to Chinatown to do some market shopping! I ended up buying so much stuff, both for myself and other people! I spent £150! But some people are paying me back for what they asked for which is handy. I got some Hermes scarves and a Mulberry handbag, amongst many other things! I am planning to post everything back home in a big box but I am paranoid that my fake stuff will be confiscated at customs. I can't carry a huge black sack around with me for the rest of the trip though so I'll have to just take the risk.
We were shopping as most of the stalls were closing so that we could get the best deals, but it also meant that we were running around like headless chickens from one stall to the next trying to make the right decisions and get the best prices - I am only a mediocre haggler so I am certain I overpaid for a few things, but everything is still a fraction of the price of the genuine article.
We eventually made it back at midnight, and I called Mum to tell her about my purchases and send some pics!
Also, it's Ed's birthday today so happy birthday, love you lots!
