Si around the world!!
Hey again everyone!
Im writing to you now from Kho Tao, and since my last entry we've also been to Kho Pha Ngan for the infamous full moon party!
But first things first. We were only in Krabi for a couple of days but me and Sam decided to do a spot of rock climbing on the sea cliffs of Railay. This added to my list of 'things id never done before I came travelling', along with silly things like eating crickets and having water fights with buckets on the beach. Rock climbing is pretty strenuous stuff, I managed the first 2 climbs just about but the 3rd one was too much! The thais manage it like monkeys though, they're well quick! Sam on the other hand had trouble, mainly cos hes really too big and heavy to lift up a cliff!
What followed was 5 days or so on Kho Phan Ngan, which was a lot of fun, and pretty much not a lot else other than being drunk or being hung over! The full moon party happens there once a month (yes, at full moon) and attracts thousands of party goers to the beach. It was a wicked laugh and we met loads of cool people who were there for a good time. On the first night we got separated from each other, so in my intoxicated state I decided it a good idea to lie down on the beach and go to sleep... I was woken up a short while later by a Lady boy trying to steal my chain!! Suffice it to say I got away pretty quick!
I paced myself a bit more the next few nights, and the night before full moon itself was probably the best we had there. The entire beach turned into one drunken water fight, with people using water guns or downing their whiskey buckets and using them to throw water at each other! After 4 nights in a row of partying by the beach(some nights until sunrise), we took a much needed day to recover, and we headed to Kho Tao.
After getting a massive batch of laundry done to get the full moon party smells off our clothes (sea water damp, sand, alcohol etc), we settled in here and began our PADI open water dive course! And im now sitting here as a certified PADI scuba diver, and I can dive anywhere in the world up to 18m below the surface of the sea!
The first couple of days of the course was theory, where they try to scare u by saying how ur lungs can explode and u can get bubbles in ur blood! If u do it wrong, that is. But we were all sensible, and our instructor, despite being a bit of a cocky 'geezer', was very responsible and took good care of us. Breathing underwater takes a bit of getting used to at first, but once ur more comfortable u look around and its absolutely amazing, it really is. You have to do it to fully understand. Its just absolutely crazy the stuff thats down there. Every now and then u look around and ur simply awe stricken. From the boat u look down at the blanket of blue you're floating on and u have no real concept of the life thats just below the surface. The seas here are clear and blue and its beautiful down there. Id recommend it to everyone, its such an strange amazing feeling.
I still cant beleive it actually. Its just crazy! On our last dive they sent a camera man who made a film which im gonna buy, so when I get back anyone whos interested can watch us swim with the fishes 18 metres below the surface. Its crazy!!
Right, im gonna go lie down or something now. Im (surprise surprise) feeling a little hung over, last night was the celbratory drink or 12 in honour of passing our course! I might do a couple more dives in the next 2 days, then we're gonna head out of here and towards Malaysia. Take care and stay in touch.
Si
