Wait…. What? This isn't Acapulco! I was supposed to be in Acapulco right now….oh well I'll have to settle for Mauritius, if settling is what you'd call it.
I got up this morning at 4:45am *cringe* and I was picked up by my transfer back to the airport in St Denis, which cost a whopping 80 Euros! I got to the airport and nothing was open, I managed to get a little bit of breakfast in just before the flight. I got on the flight and it took all of half an hour to get to Mauritius.
When we landed we sat on the tarmac for another 30 minutes waiting for a terminal to become available in the almost deserted airport. As I was snoozing in my seat I realized it. TIA. Technically, This Is Africa! *Groan* (Ha! That's actually TTIA.)
I managed to get a cab to my hotel, which was nearly an hour from the airport, and was much cheaper than the same journey on Reunion. I got to the 5 star Movenpick Resort and Spa and checked in. My room would not be available until 2pm so I grabbed my towel and headed for the private beach.
I went past the spectacular pool and onto the sand and was greeted with one of the most fabulous beaches I've ever seen. I grabbed a Jack Daniels from the bar and pulled up a sun lounger under one of the straw umbrellas. I think I fell asleep for about 2 hours, I woke up quite disorientated, thinking "How did I get here again?" Question of my life really.
I went to see if my room was ready, it was only 1pm so this was wishful thinking. It wasn't ready, oh well, TIA. I had a look in some of the shops and went for a look around the hotel. I then sat upstairs looking at the view, before one of the ladies came over and said my room was ready and that she would be back for me in a minute. Half an hour went by before she came back. *sigh* TIA. I was shown to my room, which was different to the original room number I had been given, and much more opulent than I had booked. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that I put Travel Agent under profession, on my check in form. Yay for free upgrades!
The room is huge, it has a massive bed and the biggest bath I think I've ever seen! I went down to the bar to have lunch while I waited for my bags to follow me up to my room. I'd already been waiting for 20 minutes when I realized again, TIA…don't hold your breath.
When I returned from lunch my bags had materialized and I freshened up, grabbed one of my Cubans and headed back to the beach. I got some Rum from the bar and sat on one of the sun loungers smoking my Cuban, listening to my Frank and drinking my Rum. I was listening to My Way…..and smiling to myself thinking, Ain't it great to me!
I went back up to my room and had a bath in the massive tub and watched a bit of TV on my laptop, tomorrow I am going to one of the best beaches on the island. Can't help but wonder if it gets any better than this?!
