Overnight I had decided to grab a bus and hightail it out of Croatia. I love Croatia, but I think we need a bit of distance right now. I had been down to the bus station and had decided to head off to Mostar, Bosnia to think things out.
I jumped on the bus at about 10am and drove off, it was lovely to just be gliding around the mountains not worrying about anything and to just be alone again….better off. I arrived in Mostar after a long bus trip and a border crossing and started to look for the hotel I had booked. The building was called "Beirut" not so comforting. Even less comforting was the fact that this building when I found it looked like it had been bombed in the war and had massive chunks missing out of it. I eventually found where I was staying and it was actually a room in a house being rented by these little old ladies. I had a bit of a sleep in my air conditioned room and the ladies gave me some water melon to eat. It was about forty degrees outside and one of the ladies tried to make me take a hat out, I motioned to her I had already put sun cream on.
I walked out into the virtually deserted streets and followed the signs for the old town and eventually stumbled upon the famous Mostar bridge with the occasional person jumping off it into the water below. It was really quite spectacular. I managed to set myself up in a restaurant right in front of the bridge and had a mixed grill….more grilled meat. All the food is the same here, can't beat the view I suppose. There was a man planning an accordion and the light was dimming and I was relieved to be where I was, as opposed to the chaotic, tourist infested streets of Split from which I had just come. I walked back to where I was staying and had another skype chat with Tim and we eventually decided that I would go back to Croatia and we would do it independently.
I stayed another night in Mostar, mostly because I didn't know where else to go, I now had six days to kill before meeting Tim back in Dubrovnik. I hung out, I ate, I slept, I watched movies….I found a big western shing shopping centre with a McDonalds and spent a bit of time there. Those places are great for a bit of time out, I mean let's face it, you could be anywhere.
