When i left Sydney I did a 4 day tour thing to Melbourne. We spent half a day in Canberra and as capital cities go it was a bit s***. There is more life in a grave yard than there is in Canberra. After visiting the new parliament and the war memorial in Canberra we headed for the Snowy Mountains and spent the night by lake Jindabyne, got smashed and played pool with the other other people on the tour. The next day we went up into the Snowy Mountains past a few of the ski resorts and did a bit of trekking up some really steep hills and past some snow (yes, it does snow in OZ). After our trek we followed the Snowy River down into Victoria stopping at several look outs along the way until we got to some rain forests and did a bush walk. That night we stayed at a monastery in the middle of nowhere. I reckon these people were only Monks because the didn't fit in anywhere else in society. These people clam to be the most open minded and free people in the world. If so, why do they isolate themselves from the rest of the world in the middle of nowhere with no TV, phones or internet and live a life of celibacy? I think you are the ones trapped inside a box my Monk friends not me!
The next day we left that hell hole and made our way to Lakes Entrance on the south coast of Victoria. Here we spent most of the day on Ninety Mile Beach and at a near by winery. After leaving the winery half cut went went to Foster where we spent the night drinking the wine we brought. Before we arrived in Melbourne the next day we visited Wilsons Promontory National Park where we did a bit of trekking, aw some Kangaroos and walked along squeaky beach which did actually squeak when you walked on it. It was then time to head to Melbourne where I stayed for 5 nights not doing a great deal.
The first night i was in Melbourne I met up with my tour group and set about getting as drunk as i possibly could and as a result the next day was a complete write off. I swear these hangovers are getting worse. I did manage to leave my hostel bed in the evening and have a wander around St Kilda where I was staying. Whilst in Melbourne I also visited the old Melbourne Gaol where Ned Kelly was hanged and read about some of the 100 people hanged there and saw their death masks. I also spent a day at the MCG and watch Victoria play Tasmania in the Pura Cup. The night before I left Melbourne for Adelaide i met up with Eric, Dean and Alex whom i met in Vilnius and they took me out and showed me the nightlife in Moonie Ponds about 30 minutes from the centre of Melbourne. Needless to say we got wrecked. Eric got a lift home with the filth for falling asleep in the street, Dean threw up on some bloke after a shot of Sambuca and one of Eric's mates wrapped his car around a lamp post. All in all it was quite an eventful night and a good end to my time in Melbourne.
