I have stopped wearing make-up, mostly due to the fact that my foundation is now several shades lighter than my now tanned face.I have also stopped blow-drying my hair since the 100 degree weather and 100% humidity means that no matter what I try to do with it, my hair looks like an 80's perm. This, in addition to the fact that I now wear my bathing suit more often than underwear, is starting to make me think that I am letting myself go.
But this is nothing in comparison to Antony who now feels that all clothes are optional.I know that you may not want to hear this (or indeed see) but we pride ourselves on writing truthfully about our travels and can't just tell the story that mothers, grandmothers, or work colleagues would like to hear. All the rest of you are perverts and are itching for more. Yes, Antony is nude most of the time and even in public a shirt and shoes are optional.I imagine that this is because here in Daintree in Far North Queensland everyone considers shoes and shirts as Sunday's best. There are some photos in the gallery that prove my point and I must apologise for them now.
Now for what we have been up to… We are currently taking a vacation from our vacation.I have heard of this before from other travelers but always thought that it was the most ridiculous thing. But I have learnt that a vacation is very different from traveling. When traveling, you are always moving - to different towns, tourist sites, looking for another restaurant, checking the train schedule, etc.A vacation means unpacking your bag and focusing your activities in one area for a long, luxurious week.
For this, we booked a self-contained cabin deep in the Daintree tropical rainforest. Here, we have enjoyed a lazy week where we haven't eaten out once and have slept in nearly every morning. We have been eating breakfast on our veranda, listening to birds and frogs twitter and croak. We have been reading loads of books, watching DVDs on our laptop, playing cards, preparing home-cooked meals and enjoying music (Ben Taylor is our new favorite).I have even managed to save some season 4 Grey's Anatomy on my ipod and have been watching those (one day I watched 6 episodes!).What bliss!
We have managed to pry ourselves away from our cabin on occasion. One day we drove to Cairns and went scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.Sadly, the weather was really bad which meant the visibility was poor and we didn't see the Reef in all its glory.Another day we drove up to Cape Tribulation and walked along the beach where the rainforest meets the ocean. On Australia Day (26th), we drove to Mossman Gorge and swam in a crocodile-free river in beautiful sunshine and then went into Port Douglas for a couple of beers and an Aussie sing-a-long.But we have been surprised that in the rainforest it rains a lot, so it have given us a good excuse to stay in and do nothing or just wandering amongst the amazing grounds and feeding the beautiful horses (Jos, you would have loved it!) around our cabin.
This week has been really good for us. Our Aussie adventure started in Melbourne and ended 5000km up the East Coast to Cape Tribulation and now we feel relaxed and itching to explore new territory (as well as itching from the millions of mosquitoes).Next stop, New Zealand's South Island where we swap our rental car for a camper van.
Love, R & A
Ps. This week we have organised our pre-trip photos/videos saved on the laptop and flipped through with big smiles on our faces looking back at my sister's wedding, V Festival, our week in the lake district with Ann and Bernard, the twins' christening, NYC visits and just normal photos from casual hangouts or playing with children. We miss you all very much and it makes us feel closer to home to hear from you. Thanks for all of your emails and letting us know that you're reading.
