A few parting observations about our experience in Thailand before we get on our way to Hong Kong...
The fishing town of Kuraburi was bustling this morning when our long tail boat arrived - a couple of squid boats were unloading at the pier and 5 more arriving in behind our boat. The 2.5 hour drive back to the Phuket airport provided a look into a few other places along the way, including the more touristy Khao Lak and Phuket. It speaks more about the culture and priorities here - the homes and businesses are VERY modest, bordering on derelict in our terms, while schools are everywhere - huge compounds with ornately-gated entrances, temples are magnificent structures and healthcare buildings are large and well-cared for. Motorcycles are the primary mode of transportation in these areas.
