We arrived in Christchurch and went to go to pick up our campervan. We have a Maui Ultima and it is awesome!!! It is very luxurious for being a campervan. Our first stop was the supermarket to pick up supplies for our trip. We have a fridge, microwave, stove, bbq, tv & solar panels to help power it all! We also have a bathroom with a shower with hot water! It is fantastic! It has lots of storage so as you can imagine Paul and I are having great fun exploring the van.
At the supermarket we managed to find one of Paul's favourite wines - Bin 555 Sparkling Shiraz - and it was sale! $9 a bottle which is about £4.50 - bargain!!!
We are staying in Waikuku Beach tonight which is about 33km north of Christchurch. Tomorrow we are going Marlborough and visiting some of our favourite wineries. We are staying overnight in Blenheim and from there we will go on to Nelson.
On the Wednesday we woke up in the comfort of our campervan and had a hot shower in the campsite facilities and then hit the road. We are driving to Marlborough today which is very exciting as Paul & I drink a lot of wine from here.
On our journey we stopped Kaikoura which is an amazing beach resort. We had some drama with my flip flop as the beach is all pebbles and you totally sink into the sand. Long story short Paul was my hero and recovered my havaniana!! I honestly thought I was going to have to walk back to the van with one flip flop!
This is a pretty amazing place with lots of sea life. We drove about 15 mins uo the road and came across a colony of seals. We were quite daring and went further than the lookout point and it totally paid off as we were so close to 3 seals. They eventually left but we got some amazing photos of them.
We then hit the road and made our way to Blenheim in the heart of the wine region. Our first stop was Montana Brancott Wineries! We drink a lot of this wine so it was good to stop off and have some free tastings. As it quite late in the day we made our way to the Top 10 holiday park in Blenheim for the night. We had an amazing BBQ and sat out and enjoyed our dinner and wine. A perfect end to the day!
