Long time no speak! Since our last blog we have been working and playing hard in Santiago. We both finished our jobs a week ago, which was quite sad as we really liked some of our students and really enjoyed teaching them. They gave us some really nice presents.
We flew to Buenos Aires last Sunday and as soon as we got to our hotel, we dropped our bags and went for a midnight steak feast! Oh Argentina, how we missed you!
The weather was so cold in BA, much colder than Santiago, which we've all been moaning about for the last month (although winters in Santiago are a million times better than in the UK). There were even reports that it was going to snow in BA for the third time in 50 years!! Unfortunately we didn't see this, but luckily the weather got warmer and we had beautiful blue skies for the rest of our time there.
The next day we went on a free tour of the city. We have done these in Santiago and Valparaiso and they're really good. This time, it was run by a British guy and although the tour was really interesting, he was so patronising. He taught us how to walk onto a bus, and pay for a ticket! Before getting on each metro, he would show us how to hold our bag so we didn't get pickpocketed ..."and where do we keep our phones when we're on the metro?" - do one! I get that he was trying to help us, but we hear this all the time and I think people forget WE LIVED IN LONDON!!
Buenos Aires is such a beautiful and interesting city. It is also so big and at one point we spent an hour and 45 mins on the bus from La Boca to Palermo, where we were staying. It's somewhere I have wanted to visit as long as I can remember and I wasn't disappointed. It is very European in culture, architecture, food etc and we really loved this after spending 6 months elsewhere in South America. If we had come straight from Europe I really don't think we would have appreciated it as much. Photos to follow!
In our 5 days in BA we did so much exploring, went to so many different shows, bars and museums and ate so much steak. I could live here! Watch this space ;)
The next part of our trip was an 18 hour (luxury... pushing the boat out for our final weeks in South America) bus up to the north to visit the Iguazu falls.
Our penultimate blog will be here very soon!
