Hey dennis,
Bill here, friend of Rex's that traveled through Russia and mongolia in '07.
Sounds like you are in some tough stuff, we should talk by email before you head west out of mongolia on the roads in Russia cause there are some issues ahead for you and the mule I can help with.
Bottom line keep the knobby tires on the bike and no camping in Russia west of Ulan Unde. It is not safe, robbery is an art form. Cities and banks are few until Vladivostok. There is no pavement until last 300 miles, the gravel is very dangerous.
Be safe and ride slow.
Bill

I have just got back from a quick three day 1000km trip into the Strzelecki Desert. Rode from Thargomindah - Cameron Corner - Innamincka (via The Bore Track) - Noccundra Hotel - back to Thargo. It was my first time riding in the desert and will not be the last. The peace and quiet.......
Enough of me!
I love your travels and you have covered the distance so quickly, you should be very proud of your success so far. I will be very keen to see all of your photos/video when you get back.
Absorb every moment and you will have a truly great trip.
Safe passage.
Harry.

Pam & Annie
Hi Dennis, What an amazing trip you are having and the distance you have covered so far.....such endurance. Annie and I did a road trip to Sydney at Easter and arrived home exhausted.....great roads, pretty good weather and everyone spoke English ...a walk in the park compared to your travels, you are indeed a brave man.We have had a sad week back here, 3 boys in Annie's class died in a car accident and 2 are seriously injured. We went to 2 funerals last week and the 3rd is tomorrow so we are all feeling fragile and shaken.
Back to happier tales, we are enjoying your blog and photos, maybe you could try some camera video ( easy for us to say, probably really tricky to do in reality.) Take care,we are looking forward to more adventure updates.
Cheers Pam & Annie.

Hey guys great to her from you all. The lonely side of this I have not met one independant traveller since leavin the UK. So where are they all? At home??? Oh I wish I had learned some Russian. Patric and Jenny remember SAmerica? Well absolutely no-one speaks more than one word of english and its getting worse. Still they are very proud and friendly once you make an effort to communicate.
