A poem:
Twas the morning after the night before, I awake to the sight of baileys by the door
I remember the wine, could I possibly ordered more?
Alcohol ain't a friend of mine, I bet youve heard that one before!
Time to endure the coldest shower ever, then onto to the coach, not feeling too clever
Such a short drive, no time for a nap
First stop of the day, possum pete's house of crap
Deer hunting Peter, a rather vile gent
The worst 4 dollars that I'd ever spent...
Thankya!
Possum Pete's museum attempted to educate us on deer hunting in the area. The abundance of deer an unfortunate result of games keepers attempting to help cultivate the near-by land by introducing them in into the wild years earlier. With the deer population seemingly out of control, men like Pete began catching and farming them. We paid 4 bucks to essentially watch a video of men jumping out of helicopters on top of the wild deer! Sounds cool but was actually quite upsetting seeing the deer being hoisted away to the farms!
Anywhoo, onwards and quite literally upwards to Franz Joseff and the mighty Franz Joseff glacier!
The first thing we did in Franz was sign up for the full-day glacier hike that would take place the next morning. Next up we checked in to our own room (a quaint wooden hut) followed by a 'sweet as' soak in the hostel's huggggge hot tub (it's a hard life).
After recovering from the previous night, a group of us guys left the hostel in search of somewhere to play 'footy'. Ashley had seen there was a school about 20 minutes away so we made our way there. En route we discovered that Ashley played Hockey for Leeds and had recently played my old team Huddersfield!
Turns out I should stick to the hockey (pun intended), after scoring a hat trick of OWN goals within the first 5 minutes!
Picture slightly out of place but here is Hannah and I on our hike! Happy days!
Stay tuned for more on my favourite part of the trip so far!
Kind regards
